notes from a native sun

yesterday giant step serviced the para ep to their list of djs and “industry folk”… the exciting part of that process is getting back review from peers. monday drive (the last ep) was well received, with mostly positive feedback, so let’s see what this one brings…

next week, the vinyl version gets released. can someone check to see how vinyl sales are these days, and report back to me? i haven’t really concerned myself. as a dj who plays vinyl only, it was essential for me to release my music on vinyl… it doesn’t really matter how viable it proves to be. in the end, i think i will likely get close to breaking even (as vinyl has become more and more costly to manufacture)… to be clear: the release will also be available on cd, and ofcourse (!) for digital download at itunes, beatport, and other sources..

december is an exciting time for most… for djs, like myself, it’s great because you see more people come out to events and weeklies… personally, ofcourse, everyone gets to see friends and family from out of town… it seems like houston and houston traffic expands by a few percentage points, the closer we get to the 25th… compound that with the excitement of releasing a new record, and it makes for a doubly exciting time for me…

we were initially going to do a release party this month, but there are two good reasons to postpone to january: dj sabo can come to town and be a part of the festivities (he did one of the remixes) and there is too much going on in december to really stand out with a release party… so we will be doing one in late january (likely after my birthday, which i annually celebrate with tina zulu and others that have b’days round jan 19th)…

other exciting stuff happenin:
1. when the new urb issue finally hits the stand, there is supposed to be a sticker sheet included, with my image and that of 13 other up and coming artists. so look for that when it hits the stand (supposed to be the november/december 2008 issue… as of today had not hit the stands, just yet)
2. i am playing at esl on saturday the 27th of december… i am doing a release party for the para ep that night…excitement!
3. dj melodic should be making his debut at the annual james brown party at boondocks on december 25th! playing with seuss (brett koshkin) and yours truly
